The common formats, and their limits
- Adventure and outdoor (desert, karting, obstacle courses)High energy and good for some, but they reward the fit and competitive and can sideline everyone else, and the UAE summer rules them out for months.
- Escape rooms and problem-solving gamesFun and quick, but a few dominant people tend to do the solving while the rest watch.
- Cooking and mixology classesSociable and hands-on, though the room can get loud and it is more mingling than reflection.
- Creative and art workshopsEveryone can take part regardless of skill, and they suit a calmer, more genuine kind of connection. This is where kintsugi sits.
What makes a session actually work
The activities teams remember tend to share four things: everyone can take part regardless of ability, nobody is singled out or put on the spot, there is a shared and calm focus rather than forced competition, and people leave with something, a conversation or an object, that outlasts the day itself.
Judged against that, the loud and competitive formats often do less than they promise. The quieter, hands-on ones frequently do more, because they let a team be together without performance.
Kintsugi as team building
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold, honouring the fracture instead of hiding it. As a team activity, everyone repairs their own piece: the facilitator opens with the philosophy, the room then works in near silence, and each person ends holding something they broke and mended themselves. There is nothing to win and nobody is put on the spot, which is exactly why mixed teams take to it.
It runs 60 to 120 minutes for 8 to 120 people, at your office, a venue, or the studio, and needs no craft experience. Teams from Google, Accenture, American Express and the World Economic Forum have taken part. Full formats and pricing are on the corporate events page, and a leadership version pairs the workshop with facilitated reflection led by an ICF-certified coach.
What to budget
Team building in Dubai spans a wide range. Simple activities can start around AED 150 to AED 300 per person, while facilitated or premium experiences run from roughly AED 400 to AED 800 per person, with the rate usually falling as the group grows. Ask for a fixed quote against your headcount, duration and venue rather than a per-head list price, since most providers will shape the session around the group.
